Bodhidharma (Jayavarman)

He was a Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th or 6th century CE. He is traditionally credited as the transmitter of Ch'an (meditation technique) to China, and regarded as its first Chinese patriarch. According to Chinese legend, he also began the physical training of the Shaolin monks that led to the creation of Shaolinquan.
  • Traditionally Bodhidharma is credited as founder of the martial arts at the Shaolin Temple.
  • Bodhidharma was born a prince of the Pallava dynasty in their capital of Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu, around 5th century.
  • He was the 28th Patriarch of Buddhism in an uninterrupted line that extends all the way back to the Buddha himself.
  • Contrary to the peace loving Buddhism, Bodhidharma is depicted as a rather ill-tempered, profusely bearded and wide-eyed barbarian throughout the Chinese texts.
  • When Bodhidharma travelled to the Shaolin Monastery in North China, he was denied entry to the Shaolin temple. In order to fight this injustice, he lived in a nearby cave, where he faced a wall for nine years, not speaking for the entire time.
  • He is said to have fallen asleep seven years into his nine years of wall-gazing. Becoming angry with himself, he cut off his eyelids to prevent it from happening again.
  • Bodhidharma wasn’t his real name; he acquired this name after his monkhood. His name prior to monkhood is said to be Jayavarman.

Chan Buddhism is said to have originated at one of Shakyamuni Buddha's sermons. One day, the Buddha brought his disciples together for a sermon on the Dharma. However, the Buddha did not say a single word, but simply held up a flower. Although many of his disciples tried to understand the meaning of this, only one, Mahakasyapa, fully understood. He smiled, and the Buddha acknowledged his realization. Chan is said to be a direct transmission of the dharma outside of the sutras (texts recording the teachings of the Buddha), passed "Mind to mind, Heart to heart" from master to disciple

Google Inbox is an email app by Google for Android, iOS, and Google's Chrome browser, with other web platforms planned. When the user logs in, Google scans the email account for important and similar information. It then presents what it considers the most important parts of the email first and groups similar emails as "Bundles" that are named by type (e.g., "Travel" or "Updates").
Reviewers praised the app's visual and product design, and noted that they would use it in place of the existing Gmail app. The Verge's David Pierce wrote that the app's design was easy to use, fast, "minimalist, and lovely".  Read More
